(Report) First Practical Training on Engagement and Remedy
On Wednesday, December 7, 2022, JaCER held the 1st Practical Training on Engagement and Remedy (hybrid format with online session) for practitioners from member companies at the Sasakawa Peace Foundation Building in Tokyo (Supported by the Sasakawa Peace Foundation).
This first training session conducted by JaCER was attended by 45 participants from 20 member companies. Emi Sugawara (Professor, Osaka University of Economics and Law, JaCER Director) and Toshio Shikata (Former Senior Manager of Fuji Oil Group, JaCER Advisor) gave keynote speeches to deepen understanding of how engagement and remedy should be in accordance with the Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights and practical points to be considered in operating grievance mechanisms. In the latter half of the session, a case study learning session in the form of group work was held on "Responses to Claims about Labor Issues in Overseas Supply Chains", where participants deepened their discussions together on how to respond to actual claims, assuming response to actual claims handling.
JaCER will continue to provide effective training for its member companies by inviting experts in various fields. In addition, JaCER will continue to promote understanding and make extension activities for engagement and remedies in Japan by cooperating with the "Engagement and Remedy Forum for Responsible Business Conduct" held annually for the general public (the next forum is scheduled for February 2023).
